The municipality of Tesanj is once again on the list of European micro-cities and regions of the future, published by the American magazine Financial Times, Suad Huskic, the Mayor of Tesanj told FENA news agency.

The Financial Times has published the fDi Intelligence list of European cities and regions of the future in 2024, in which Tesanj is ranked as the best area from Bosnia and Herzegovina, along with Kakanj, which is ranked seventh, and Bosanska Gradiska, which is in the 9th place.

Only Limerick from Ireland, Ventspils from Latvia and Panevezys from Lithuania are ranked better than Tesanj.

“We were already on that list together with the municipalities of Zepce and Teslic, as a region. It was in 2014 and 2015 when it was a surprise, but after that, we had constant economic growth in all parameters. This year there were more than 500 applications, more precisely 509 applications from cities and regions,” Huskic said, noting that there were also cities with more than 100,000 inhabitants on the list.

Economic potential, human capital and lifestyle, economy, connectivity, convenience for business and foreign direct investment strategy were evaluated.

“Our municipality has around 13,800 employees, and last year 236 new business entities were registered. At the beginning of this year, 2024, we have 3,056 business entities. For the sake of comparison, in 2020 we had 2,630 business entities, that is, we have a growth of 425 new business entities.

The turnover of all business entities in 2023 increased by over 20 percent and amounted to 2.43 billion KM, while in 2022 it was 1.9 billion KM. Turnover grew much more than in the rest of the Federation of BiH and the country as a whole,” Huskic pointed out.

He is pleased, he added, that last year they had 200 more children born than there were deaths.

The number of registered unemployed in the Tesanj Municipality Employment Service at the beginning of 2024 was 5,140 and is constantly decreasing.
