Fire on Cvrsnica still active, firefighting hampered by strong winds and inaccessible terrain

According to the Operations Centre of the Civil Protection Administration of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton (OCCZ HNC), firefighting operations at the site above the ski slope, at an altitude of 1,850 metres, are ongoing continuously, with members of the Professional Firefighting Unit and the Jablanica Volunteer Firefighting Association deployed at the scene.

The firefighting effort is further hampered by stronger winds, as well as the fact that the fire has reached an area that is completely inaccessible to ground crews in most parts. Given the extreme conditions, the Operations Centre stressed that continued and sustained deployment of aerial firefighting units will be necessary to contain the fire.

Croatian Canadair firefighting aircraft were again deployed yesterday to assist firefighters in Jablanica.
