Firefighters control major blaze on Brac, other fires contained

Firefighters are continuing to soak the affected area on Brac, where more than 4,000 hectares have burned. Nikola Martinic Dragan, commander of the Brac Operational Zone, said the situation between Lozisca and Milna on this Dalmatian island was improving after a quiet night, with crews now tackling remaining hotspots.

Smoke is still rising from two areas: an old landfill site crossed by the fire and the Osibova area, where glamping units were destroyed. More than 250 firefighters and around 50 vehicles remain deployed.

A separate wildfire broke out above Bol at around 2.30pm on Sunday in difficult terrain. Two Canadair firefighting aircraft were deployed alongside crews transferred from the Milna fire. The blaze has been contained and the area remains under observation.

Another fire broke out near Sevid, outside Trogir, shortly after 4pm on Sunday. Two Canadair aircraft and an Air Tractor joined firefighting efforts. The blaze, which affected grass, low vegetation and scrub, burned around 50 hectares before being contained shortly after 9pm. Around 30 firefighters remain on site, with two firefighting aircraft assisting with mop-up operations.

Firefighters also tackled a warehouse fire at a retail centre in Kastela, reported at around 5.30pm on Sunday. The fire was extinguished several hours later by crews from Solin, Kastela and Split, supported by teams from surrounding areas. A total of 73 firefighters and 25 vehicles were involved, with some crews remaining on site overnight.
