The first heart transplant in Bosnia and Herzegovina has demonstrated the high expertise and dedication of our doctors and medical staff, announced the Medical Chamber of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“On behalf of the Medical Chamber of FBiH and myself, I congratulate you on the remarkable achievement of the successful first heart transplant in our country. This exceptional medical success is a significant step forward for our profession, showcasing the high expertise and dedication of our doctors and medical personnel,” stated the Chamber's president, Dr. Amila Becirovic.
The heart transplant not only raises standards in medical practice but also offers new hope to patients with severe heart conditions. For many, such an intervention can mean the difference between life and death, providing them with a chance for a new, quality life, she added.
The president of the Medical Chamber expressed profound gratitude to the donor's parents.
“Your selfless decision and courage have made this success possible and have given a new chance to save three lives. Your noble deeds are invaluable and immensely appreciated,” she emphasized.
She wished the patients a swift and successful recovery and added that the Chamber's support and expertise are always available.
To recall, the public institution Cantonal Hospital Zenica successfully performed a new organ explantation from a brain-dead donor, this time a 21-year-old, whose brain death was diagnosed on August 3. This led to the first heart transplant in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
