Local authorities in Serbia’s southern Doljevac municipality declared an emergency after heavy floods caused by outflows of watercourses during the last night, the municipality President Goran Ljubic said on Monday.

He said that 16 people had to be evacuated.

“We were trying to prevent the flooding of (the local villages) Sarlinas, Belotinac and Makisa, but water entered into houses flooding cellars,” Ljubic added.

Last June the emergency also had to be declared after another big flood that hit the region.
