The former head coach of the BiH national basketball team, Vedran Bosnic, sued the Country’s Basketball Federation due to outstanding financial obligations to him, Basketball Association’s secretary-general Amer Colan confirmed for N1 on Tuesday.

The basketball association states that it owes Bosnic € 5,000, but that the former coach is also demanding money until the end date of his contract with the national team in 2023.

“The Basketball Association of BiH owes € 5,000 for the first quarter of 2022 to Mr Vedran Bosncć. The money was not paid to him in February, because the association had problems with the trip to Lithuania. The agreement was to settle the amount at the beginning of the sixth month of 2022. That amount has not yet been paid to the coach. He sued the Association and demanded the full amount by 2023. So he is asking for money for the period he did not work, nor will he work. The Association has prepared a response to the lawsuit that Bosnic sent to FIBA,” said the secretary general, Amer Colan.

“The contract clearly states that if one of the parties terminates the contract, i.e. Vedran Bosnic or the Association, the Association is only obliged to pay the financial obligations until the moment of termination of the contract,” Colan explained.

The 46-year-old Bosnic has successfully led the basketball team of Bosnia and Herzegovina since 2018, and he also took them to the Eurobasket, which was held this year. He resigned on June 8, 2022, and after that, the Association appointed a new coach, Adis Beciragic, who led BiH at the previous Eurobasket.

The former coach emphasized the following in one of his speeches after submitting his resignation:

“Unacceptable solutions, they [the BiH Basketball Association] ignore a communication, reject my proposals for preparations for the European Championship, don’t accept my choice of friendly matches, interfere with my choice of players, don’t fulfil their financial obligations towards me.”
