The Prosecutor’s Office of BiH has received a final second-instance verdict in the case against Selmo Cikotic, upholding the initial ruling and sentencing the defendant to three years in prison, the office announced.

“Although the prosecution’s appeal regarding the length of the sentence was rejected, we emphasize the importance of this final conviction in a high-profile corruption case. The defendant, a former Minister of Defense of BiH, has been sentenced to prison for the criminal offense of abuse of position or authority under Article 220 of the Criminal Code of BiH,” stated the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH.

To recap, Cikotic was accused of abusing his official position from 2009 to 2011, in coordination with other individuals, to benefit the company “Scout” from Zagreb.

The indictment claims that Cikotic, in violation of the 2008 Agreement on the Final Disposal of All Rights and Obligations over Movable Property and decisions by the BiH Presidency, issued and signed two decisions approving the delivery or exchange of goods, as well as four resolutions for the delivery of ammunition. According to the indictment, he also signed four amendments to the basic contracts for the sale of surplus weapons and ammunition originally signed in 2003 and 2004.
