The Head of Bosnia’s Islamic Community, Husein Kavazovic, as well as thousands of people attended the funeral of former Islamic Community head in Serbia, Muamer Zukorlic, who passed away on Saturday.
“This is a day of sorrow today, a day of sorrow for all Bosniaks, wherever they may be. We send off our father, son, brother, friend, our great mufti, the man who has entrusted us all with his life, to eternal life,” Kavazovic said at the Gazi Isa-beg Square in Novi Pazar.
Kavazovic’s predecessor, Mustafa Ceric, also attended the funeral, as well as the current Islamic Community head in Serbia, Dr. Mevlud Dudic.
Zukorlic, born in 1970, was elected head of the Islamic Community of Sandzak the same year it was founded and held post until 2016. He was in 2007 elected head of the Islamic Community in Serbia.
In 2016, Zukorlic entered politics and became an MP in Serbia’s National Assembly. He was the leader of the Justice and Reconciliation Party.
He was also the President of the International University in Novi Pazar.
Zukorlic ran in the 2012 presidential elections and won 1.39 percent of the vote.
