On the occasion of the 31st anniversary of the burning down of Sarajevo City Hall's building, CNN's Christiane Amanpour shared a photo from the ruins of what was then the National and University Library of Bosnia and Herzegovina, conveying a strong message.

Amanpour, who recently paid a visit to the Bosnian capital city reminded of the war past of Sarajevo publishing a photo of her reporting from the city during the 1990s.

“Reporting, August 26th 1992. Serbian destruction of the historic Sarajevo library. They tried to killed Bosnia's identity,” she posted on the X platform.

Then she shared a photo taken during her latest visit to the city.

“Back 31 years later to see it rebuilt. But still vital to be vigilant. The same fascism lives on in Europe today”, said Amanpour.

The war reporter who had spent the early 1990s reporting from Bosnia and Herzegovina, attended the opening of the Sarajevo Film Festival this year, and during her stay mayor Benjamina Karic handed her over the Honorary Citizen of Sarajevo recognition she was awarded with in 2000.
