The chairman of the German Trade Union Confederation (Deutscher Gewerkschaftsbund / DGB), Reiner Hoffmann, called the BiH Presidency Chairman Milorad Dodik’s attack on journalist Tanja Topic "an indecent and unacceptable act that exceeds what is allowed."

Earlier this week, Dodik unfoundedly accused Topic of being an agent of the German BND and a quisling (traitor), and thus threatened her family who lives in Banja Luka, the Union’s reaction states.

“It is an isolated structure, an isolated family that does not communicate with anyone, it has been excluded from the environment,” said Dodik.

“Tanja Topic has been working for the Friedrich Ebert Foundation for decades, and she cooperates with the German Trade Union Confederation. We had the opportunity to meet her as a competent person with personal integrity. She is an independent analyst and journalist, who approaches reality critically,” Hoffman said.

“Obviously, Dodik's goal is to intimidate and tarnish Tanja Topic. It is the culmination and “crown” of his ongoing campaign against critical journalism and free and independent media. In that way, he stands by his role models such as the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, and the Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orban. We are in solidarity with Tanja Topic, and support the right to freedom of opinion and independent journalism, which, for us, goes without saying,” Hoffmann added.
