The Hamza Kurtovic Award was presented for the first time on Tuesday in Hahn in the presence of leading politicians from Germany and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz is the patron of this award, which will be awarded every year. It seeks to show "the importance of social commitment in the fight against all forms of extremism and racism," the organizers said.

It was created in memory of the murdered Hamza Kenan Kurtović, one of the victims of the racist attack in Hahn, Germany, on February 19, 2020, WDR reports.

In memory of the murdered Hamza Kenan Kurtovic, awards were given in fourteen categories. The award is given to individuals, institutions and initiatives engaged in the fight against racism. The ceremony was attended by politicians from Germany and Bosnia and Herzegovina, celebrities from public life and Hamza's friends.

Among them is Federal Secretary of the Interior Nancy Faeser. She received the award in the category of the best politician in the fight against racism: “I am deeply moved by the strength this family invests to turn a true family drama into positive energy.”

Leading politicians from Bosnian and Herzegovina, namely, the BiH Presidency member Zeljko Komsic as well as the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bisera Turkovic attended the award ceremony.
