In an interview with Croatian Nacional weekly, Bosnia’s Grand Mufti Husein Kavazovic said that the blackmail policy, the policy of blockades and the constant undermining of the state are not a way to create an atmosphere of trust that will encourage politicians to take the path of compromise.
He recalled the false accusation about the role of the Islamic community in the election of the Croat Presidency member as one of the best illustrations of the Islamic community's involvement in the political field.
“The goal of such propaganda is to present Bosniaks as a religious group, in which religious and political authority are not separated, so there is also the systematic calling of Bosniaks – Muslims, which started to be used in a coordinated manner by both nationalists in BiH and those in Serbia and, unfortunately, some in Croatia. The Islamic community is aware of these efforts and will know how to respond to them,” said the Grand Mufti.
He also noted that any extra-institutional, unilateral and thoughtless behaviour in BiH will not bring good to anyone and that the very announcements of such scenarios scare Bosniaks for a reason, especially when looking at the East of Europe and what is happening there.
Kavazovic pointed out that he hopes there will be enough knowledge and wisdom in the region, as well as the international community, not to repeat the mistakes of the nineties.
“We are also concerned that these retrograde forces recently started trying to find political protectors in some of the world's metropolises, who see the world around them with the same eyes of intolerance, spreading fear and hatred and crossing borders by force,” said the Grand Mufti.
He assessed that the inter-religious dialogue in Bosnia, with occasional disagreements and incidents, can serve as an example for numerous countries that did not have the history of war and suffering that BiH did.
