The leader of Bosnia’s strongest ethnic Croat party met with the Prime Minister of neighbouring Croatia on Monday to inform him of “worrying developments” regarding the local election in the southern Bosnian city of Mostar, where he claims there was “electoral engineering” which the Central Election Commission (CEC) was allegedly involved in.
The leader of Bosnia’s Croat Democratic Union (HDZ BiH), Dragan Covic, posted on Twitter that he spoke with Croatia’s Andrej Plankovic about the continuation of good neighbourly relations and cooperation between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia, further commitment to development and Bosnia’s path toward EU membership, as well as “worrying developments in the local elections in Mostar.”

According to Covic and his party, as well as the Croat National Assembly in Bosnia (HNS BiH), an organisation made up of Bosnian Croat parties in the country, the CEC was involved in election fraud in thee city. The HNS BiH also submitted a criminal complaint regarding it to prosecutors in the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton.
Covic has written to foreign ambassadors in Bosnia and top EU officials, including EU parliamentarians, about the irregularities in the Mostar election several times.
Mostar saw its first local election since 2008 on December 20.
In 2010, the Constitutional Court ruled parts of the Election Law for Mostar unconstitutional and parties that won the 2008 election, the HDZ BiH and the Party for Democratic Action (SDA), could not reach an agreement on how to amend it until last year.
