Head of the Srebrebica Memorial Centre Emir Suljagic called on the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina who live on the territory of Republika Srpska entity not to conform to the speech of hate and hysteria that the political leadership in that part of the country tried to spread from the Banja Luka rally on Thursday. Suljagic's call came a day after the mass gathering in Bosnia's second-largest city and the administrative centre of the Bosnian Serb-majority region, whose political leadership organised the gathering to protest against the upcoming vote on the Resolution on Srebrenica Genocide at the UN General Assembly.

Massive gathering in BiH's Republika Srpska entity over Resolution on Srebrenica: Dodik denies genocide, threatens secession

“The populists who can no longer access their bank accounts, who are obviously nervous because they get no salaries, are ready to topple the rule of law and the human rights heritage only because they are in panic. They resolutely raised the hysteria about the Resolution on Srebrenica Genocide in order to once again play the card of the global conspiracy to preserve their positions,” Suljagic said.

He stressed that the Srebrenica Memorial Centre has in no way contributed to the divisions in the country.

“Our people, associates and employees live and work in Bratunac and Srebrenica. They share the reality of the people here, no matter what their names are. Our only mission is justice, the battle to preserve the testimonies and stories, and to use the lessons of Srebrenica for the generations to come. And we do that for our own and your children, if you want to divide children as well. And we don't. Our institutions is and will be visited by the people of all nationalities, we have friends in all parts of the region and we work together on making the genocide against the Bosniaks of Srebrenica a warning. For all,” he said.

Suljagic pointed out the role of various western countries in helping the post-war recovery of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which were targeted by negativity at the gathering in Banja Luka.

“Yesterday, they openly spoke against the European Union, Germany, Italy, France, the United States, the UK. If you look around, you will see how much those countries helped the recovery of Bosnia and Herzegovina, where they improved the lives of the citizens on both sides of the inter-entity boundary line. You can see the traces of their work in our communities on every step. And where are the friends that the speakers of the yesterday's gathering talked about? Nowhere to be seen, they don't come. Let's use the opportunity of passing the Resolution on Srebrenica to face the facts and close the dark chapter of our country's history. Let's make this the point of the facing and not of the conflict or nationalist hysteria,” he concluded.
