“International community cannot say Dodik’s arrest doesn’t concern them”

"Today I am here to express deep respect for the honorable and courageous defenders. On this day, May 2, 1992, the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina, its capital, and the Presidency were defended. The Presidency of BiH symbolizes the sovereignty of the state, and today, as a member of the Presidency, I want to highlight the crucial importance of its defense during that period. Even today, in 2025, we must state that the Presidency plays a vital role, and no one should ever allow a system that implies asymmetric election of its members," said Becirovic.
He emphasized the need for good cooperation between BiH and Croatia, between Bosniaks and Croats, and among all citizens and peoples of Bosnia and Herzegovina, but added that "Mr. Dragan Covic is causing great harm to BiH."
“As for Dodik, all words have been exhausted. He is a political vulgarian, a man who plays on the field of primitiveness. Unlike him, I play on the field of legal arguments and will never stoop to his level. I have never made any statement that is in any way offensive to any ethnic group in BiH or elsewhere, and I never will. I respect all people equally and believe the future of this country lies in mutual respect and turning towards European and Euro-Atlantic integration,” Becirovic added.
Member of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH, Safet Keso, said the role of the international community "is essential, unavoidable, and must be realized."
"The international community cannot simply say, ‘Let domestic actors agree.’ It is impossible to reach an agreement with Milorad Dodik while he is dismantling the country’s constitutional order and attacking the foundations of BiH statehood," Keso added.
Therefore, he stressed, the role of the international community is key.
"To be very direct: I am speaking about the arrest of Milorad Dodik, a fugitive from the law and a destroyer of BiH’s constitutional order. The international community cannot claim that this does not concern them. They must assist within the mandate of EUFOR. They must ensure that legal obligations of police and security structures—tasked with enforcing the law in BiH—are carried out. I believe the crisis will deepen if the international community does not realize it must support BiH’s Euro-Atlantic orientation," Keso told reporters.
