Ivica Bosnjak officially assumed the position of Minister of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina on Monday.

Bošnjak previously served as Deputy Minister of Security under Nenad Nesic, who is currently in custody. Nesic was detained on charges of abuse of office and accepting bribes during his tenure as director of the public company “Roads of Republika Srpska” from 2016 to 2020.

Given these developments, Bosnjak explained that he is stepping into the ministerial role in accordance with legal procedures.

Legal proceedings against Nesic and associates

The Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina recently ordered Nesic, Mladen Lucic, the owner of the firm Legend, and Milan Dakic, director of the public company “Putevi of Republika Srpska, ” to be detained for one month. The Prosecutor’s Office of BiH requested the detention.

The court justified the decision by citing Article 132, Paragraph 1, Point (b) of the Criminal Procedure Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The reasons include concerns that the accused might destroy, conceal, alter, or forge evidence crucial to the criminal proceedings or influence witnesses, accomplices, or accessories.

The accused are charged with offences including Organized Crime, Abuse of Office or Official Authority, and Accepting Bribes.

Bribery allegations against Nesic

During a hearing held on December 28 at the Court of BiH, the Prosecutor’s Office alleged that Nesic received bribes totalling one million Bosnian marks (some €500,000) between 2016 and 2020. The court proceedings and investigations are ongoing, with authorities focusing on the detailed examination of the charges and related evidence.
