The Speaker of the House of Peoples of Bosnia's Parliamentary Assembly, Bakir Izetbegovic, met in Brussels with the rapporteur of the European Parliament for BiH, Paul Rangel on Tuesday.
“Izetbegovic expressed satisfaction with the content of the Report on BiH, which was adopted by the European Parliament and which provides full support to the European integration of BiH,” his Cabinet said.
During the meeting, participants discussed the implementation of 14 key priorities from the Opinion of the European Commission on BiH's application for membership in the European Union. It was pointed out that BiH has the opportunity to obtain the candidate status this year, and in that context, it is necessary to make additional efforts in the reform of the judiciary and the fight against corruption, as well as the implementation of verdicts of the European Court of Human Rights.
“Interlocutors agreed on the need to include representatives of all parliamentary parties and the international community in talks on constitutional and electoral legislation reforms, with the aim of finding a compromise solution that would eliminate all existing forms of discrimination in the BiH constitutional and electoral system,” in a statement.
Rangel emphasized the commitment to Bosnia's European perspective, and the readiness of the European Parliament and other institutions of the European Union, together with the institutions and decision-makers in BiH, to dedicate themselves to the implementation of reforms and dynamizing BiH's path to EU membership.
