Suspect found dead: Kalesija jewelry heist takes fatal turn

The operational center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP) Police Administration of the Tuzla Canton was notified around 7:35 am that a robbery was underway at a jewelry shop in Kalesija's town center, and that firearms had been used.

In response, all available patrols from PS Kalesija, the Criminal Police Department (OKP) of the Kalesija Police Administration, and rapid intervention teams from the Special Support Police Unit were immediately dispatched to the scene.

The attempted jewelry heist turned into a high-stakes drama after the police arrived, as the assailants used firearms. Videos of the intense police action, where officers attempted to prevent the suspects from fleeing, later surfaced on social media, though the efforts to stop them were unsuccessful.

In a critical development, one of the attackers involved in the armed robbery was found dead, according to unofficial sources.

Based on initial information, the man's body was reportedly thrown from the vehicle by his accomplices during their escape from the crime scene.

Media outlets learned that he was wounded during the initial confrontation with the police and subsequently died from the injuries sustained.

It is important to emphasize that it has not yet been confirmed whether the attackers fired at the police, a detail which will be determined by further investigation. Two videos, however, appeared on social media.

In one video, the police are seen stopping the vehicle carrying the assailants and attempting to pull them out, but they fail to do so.

A second attempt to prevent their escape involved the use of firearms by the police; an officer fired a pistol at the suspects' vehicle in an effort to puncture the tires and halt their plan.

This attempt was also unsuccessful, and the attackers managed to flee the police.

It must be noted that the footage is unsettling, particularly considering that this police operation unfolded in the town center, where the attackers were also armed. The incident occurred during a peak period when people were heading to work and children were going to school, as the event took place near an educational institution, as well as other facilities like cafes and supermarkets.
