Josip Juratovic, a long-time member of the German parliament (Bundestag), spoke to N1 ahead of Thursday's decision by the European Council regarding the opening of accession negotiations between the European Union and Bosnia. He emphasized that a Bundestag session ended in the afternoon, where the government addressed the parliament regarding the session of the European Council. The outcome is the fact that the Bundestag reached a resolution encouraging the government of this country to support the opening of EU accession negotiations with Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“BiH has really done more in the last year than in ten years,” Juratovic said, adding that he believes that the green light for BiH will be ‘turned on’ Thursday, as well as that the current set of rulers will continue to act at the same pace.

However, he added that it was clear to him that there are ethno-political structures in BiH and beyond that will try to disrupt the process.

“We have to stop with the old narrative of ethno-nationalists and start with a new story. This act that is happening now is exactly one important part of the democrats’ victory over them. This is a big victory for a small country,” Juratovic repeated.

It should be noted that the opening of negotiations between the EU and BiH was supported by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
