Husein Kavazovic, Grand Mufti of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina, said at Sarajevo's Gazi Husrev-bey Mosque on Thursday that remembering the Srebrenica genocide is not only an act of paying tribute to the victims but also a lasting religious, moral, and national obligation to preserve the truth. He warned that forgetting creates space for evil to recur and stressed that preventing genocide is the responsibility of every individual, family, and institution.

In his Friday sermon dedicated to the remembrance of the Srebrenica genocide, Kavazovic emphasized that the culture of remembrance must not be reduced to commemorating a single day each year but should become an integral part of upbringing, education, and public life.

He warned of increasingly frequent attempts to deny the genocide and relativize historical facts, stressing that the truth must be preserved without hatred, but also without naivety, through strengthening the community, institutions, education, and responsibility toward future generations.

"Remembering Srebrenica and actively working to prevent evil are the pillars of our survival in our homeland," Grand Mufti Kavazovic said.
