Landslides and rockfalls threaten infrastructure in Zenica-Doboj Canton
All rivers in the Zenica-Doboj Canton returned to their courses over the weekend, but following heavy rainfall and recent floods, landslides and rockfalls have been triggered in several locations, the director of the Cantonal Civil Protection Administration of Zenica-Doboj Canton, Dzavid Alicic, confirmed to FENA.

He noted that authorities had already warned about the potential for landslides and rockfalls after the rivers receded, given that prolonged rainfall had significantly saturated the soil.
"In some areas, road infrastructure has been affected, and in several locations, residential buildings are also at risk. The most endangered residential building is in the City of Visoko, in the village of Godusa, where a landslide has been activated. However, geologists recommend that no remediation work should be undertaken until the soil dries, ensuring that machinery can safely operate," said Alicic.
In the City of Zenica, active landslides have been reported in Ljubetovo, Vrazale, and Lokvine, disrupting road communication and complicating traffic.
"Machinery from relevant services is already on-site and working on stabilization. In the Municipality of Tesanj, four new landslides have been recorded, while in the Municipality of Doboj Jug, one new landslide has been reported in the local community of Mravici," Alicic added.
Efforts are currently focused on restoring uninterrupted road access in areas affected by rockfalls and landslides.
For larger landslides that do not threaten road infrastructure, only preventive measures will be taken based on geological assessments until a full study or remediation project is completed.
