Senka Nozica, the lawyer of the head of Bosnia’s Intelligence-Security Agency (OSA) who stands accused of abuse of office, document fraud and money laundering, told the Court of BiH on Friday that the arrest of her client, Osman Mehmedagic, was illegal.
The defence on Friday asked the court to release Mehmedagic.
Nozica said that there is no basis for the allegations that Mehmedagic committed crimes he is charged with and that there was no reason to detain him.
“The arrest of our client was being announced in certain media for a full month. If that is not something that was dictated by a certain political influence, then I don't know what is,” she said, arguing that the case must be political because of the position Mehmedagic serves which she said is “interesting for the reshuffling of power.”
Prosecutor Dubravko Campara, however, requested custody for Mehmedagic, arguing that there is the danger that he could try to obstruct the investigation, conceal evidence and influence witnesses or accomplices in the case, as well as because his release “could cause disturbance among the public and citizens.”
He argued that there have already been “elements of security breaches” related to the arrest.
