Operational Commander for the EU’s Operation Althea, Lieutenant General Brice Houdet, told the President of the Brcko District Assembly Sinisa Milic that he believes the security situation in the country did not worsen and that there is no need for additional NATO troops in the district, the Srna news agency reported.
He said that this is what he will tell the ambassadors when he returns to Brussels, adding that the situation is not as it was presented by some media and people.
Houdet said that he will do everything in his power to maintain peace in the country.
Milic agreed that the security situation in the district is stable and that he was surprised by the calls from some political forces in the country to deploy NATO troops in Brcko.
“My impression is that none of the peoples in the district is in favour of war. Most residents are ready to work through dialogue to improve life in this local community. We know that there is no alternative to the dialogue between all three peoples, because we have built a relationship here on dialogue,” he said.
