Russian chef Alexei Zimin was found dead in his apartment in central Belgrade, local media reported on Wednesday.

Zimin’s body was found by his landlord who had been trying to contact him for several days. He owned the Zima restaurant in London. He was in Serbia to promote his book Anglomania and cooked at a club in central Belgrade.

The pro-government Vecernje Novosti said that Zimin died of a burst aorta and Blic daily added that prosecutors ordered an autopsy with a toxicology report.

The 52-year-old Zimin was a vocal opponent of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. He moved from Moscow to London in 2022 after hosting cooking shows on Russian TV for 11 years.

The BBC said that Zimin’s cookery show on the Russian NTV channel was axed after he posted anti-war messages on social media following the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

The Zima Restaurant in Soho confirmed his death on Instagram.
