The Central Election Commission (CEC) is trying to “cover up election fraud and organized crime” that allegedly took place in the local election in the southern city of Mostar in December, the main Croat party in the country, Bosnia’s Croat Democratic Union (HDZ BiH), said in a press release on Monday.

The CEC confirmed the local election results in Mostar on Sunday evening.

According to the HDZ BiH, however, the election process was compromised. The Croat National Assembly in Bosnia (HNS BiH), an organisation made up of Bosnian Croat parties, had submitted a complaint alleging election fraud to the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton Prosecutor’s Office.

“Everything is happening according to the procedures prescribed by law, as if there was no gross violation of the electoral will of the citizens of the city of Mostar and electoral engineering and vote theft, which directly affected the election result,” the HDZ BiH said in a press release.

Although the deadline to confirm the election results in Mostar will not expire in another two weeks, the CEC did so now with the goal to “cover up election fraud and organized crime,” the party said, adding that the results could not have been released yet because prosecutors are still investigating possible election fraud.

The party said it will “use all legal mechanisms in order to protect the election result and the integrity of the election.”
