European Commission will recommend candidate status for Bosnia and Herzegovina without further conditions, i.e. based on 'Ukrainian model' local media in Bosnia and Herzegovina reported on Wednesday.
The Politicki.ba online media outlet cited sources in Brussels, noting that the Commission will apply ‘Ukrainian model’ for Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Namely, it means granting a candidate status without conditioning it with previous implementation of some reforms.
The same media outlet earlier reported that the country would get the candidate status under the condition of amending laws in the judiciary sector and law on conflict of interest. However, the sources within the Commission that were against such conditions prevailed.
Today, at 1 p.m. EU Enlargement Commissioner Oliver Varhelyi is set to present annual reports on the progress of all six Western Balkan Countries towards the EU. Reportedly, all reports reflect the poor state of the EU path in the region.
But, as the geopolitical situation in Europe keeps changing drastically, the Commission decided to start “pushing” the countries of the Western Balkans.
