Bosnia’s Regulatory Communications Agency (RAK) fined the state-owned BH Telecom 15,000 Bosnian marks (some €7,500), and the company's General Manager, Sedin Kahriman, with 2,000 marks (roughly €1,000), because they provided broadcasting services for matches of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and other program content through the MY TV service without the Agency’s permission.
In late 2022, the state public emitter BHRT broadcasted the FIFA World Cup and according to published information, the BHRT and BH Telekom signed an agreement on the sublicensing of media rights for the World Cup.
It was stated that all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina will be able to watch all the matches for free on the BHRT television programme and on the MY TV and Moja web TV services of BH Telecom.
But that turned out to be incorrect as some matches were only available on MY TV service, exclusive to BH Telecom, and some were broadcast by BHRT with a 15-minute delay.
This was followed by reactions and reports to the RAK, which at the end of January made a decision to fine BH Telecom and the company General Manager, noting that any repeated violation may result in a harsher penalty.
