It is important that all countries start the process of vaccinating the population because while the virus is spreading, there is a possibility that it could mutate into a variant that may be resistant to vaccines, microbiologist at the University of Warwick, Branko Rihtman, told N1.

The fact that Bosnia is lagging when it comes to vaccination is well known, and Rihtman said that Bosnians should opt for any available vaccine.

More and more countries are considering the idea of introducing ‘Covid passports’, he said, arguing that some countries already do not let people enter without them presenting a negative coronavirus test and that this could eventually also be the case with vaccination.

He gave the example of Israel, where he said there is talk about banning unvaccinated people from attending concerts and closed sports events.

“Of course, there is a fear of an invasion of privacy, but it is justified by the fact that society must be protected and if they want to return to normal life, steps must be taken that return us to normal life,” he argued.

A virus that spreads is a virus that mutates, Rihtman said, explaining that if there is a large number of unvaccinated people it increases the possibility of ending up with a strain that is resistant to vaccines.

“There is a danger that we will return to the situation from a year ago when the virus first appeared. That is why it is important that all countries are vaccinated. It is in the interest of all of us to get vaccinated, otherwise, we will return to the initial situation,” he stressed.
