The Nomination Sub-Council in Bosnia’s top judicial institution nominated Milanko Kajganic for the post of BiH Chief Prosecutor as he was the only candidate to remain in consideration after prosecutor Diana Kajmakovic’s “integrity was called into question” since she was sanctioned by the United States.
“We discussed it and by the majority of votes took the position that she, due to her integrity being called into question, should not advance in the procedure, should not go to the council as a person who should present her work program. According to us, she is not a candidate”, the president of BiH’s High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council (HJPC), Halil Lagumdzija.

Other than Kajganic and Kajmakovic, there were two other candidates for the post.
For an hour, it was discussed whether there should even be a vote in favour of the earlier decision of the Subcommittee to repeat the election for the chief state prosecutor. Certain members suggested that the Subcouncil withdraw and pass a new proposal for a decision, since, as they said, circumstances have changed.
One of the candidates, Miroslav Janjic, withdrew his candidacy, while another one, Seid Marusic, did not meet the conditions for his candidacy to be supported.
The U.S. Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) designated Diana Kajmakovic, a state prosecutor in Bosnia and Herzegovina for being responsible for or complicit in corruption or the undermining of democratic processes or institutions in the Western Balkans, the Treasury Department said Monday.
“As part of a larger crackdown on organized crime and narcotics trafficking in BiH, investigators analyzed private conversations conducted via encrypted messaging applications. Criminals in these encrypted conversations mentioned Kajmakovic, who worked on some of the investigations concerning this activity. In support of narcotics traffickers and other criminals, Kajmakovic helped hide evidence, prevent prosecution, and otherwise assist criminal activity in exchange for personal gain. She also attempted to block an investigation into her apparent criminal affiliates,” the US Treasury statement said.
