Croatian President Zoran Milanovic spoke about the recent F-16 flyover in Bosnia and how the Republika Srpska (RS) entity President Milorad Dodik reacted to it, saying that he does not agree with Dodik’s statements, but that they are similar to shat Croats wanted in 1991. Milanovic made these statements during his participation in the ceremonial handover of the duties of commander of the Croatian Navy (HRM) in Split.

“The events in BiH mean nothing for us in a way. On the other hand, everything that concerns the status of Croats in Bosnia and Herzegovina is also very important to us,” Milanovic said.

“The Americans are flying over Croatia, the corridor is open for them. They pass from Avian towards Bosnia and Herzegovina. In the meantime, NATO left BiH. There is now some kind of EU mission there. And what happened? A couple of planes, I assume American ones, flew over Croatia, routinely, because they arranged it with someone in Sarajevo, they don't have to ask us anything, they flew over,” he stated.

It didn't happen once, Milanovic added, it happens all the time.

“There was some kind of exercise in BiH, and everything is complicated there. The Bosniak Minister arranged everything himself with NATO, they flew to the exercise which had to be held two weeks later. But it was held on that unfortunate Day of RS to be visible to the Serbs. Regardless of Dodik, who talks all kinds of things, these planes fly over Croatia because it's convenient for them. They can also enter Bosnia and Herzegovina through Montenegro. We asked to be included in that [EUFOR] Althea mission because we are a NATO member. When that mission began, we were not both NATO and the EU. But even today they don't let us into the mission in BiH. We can send our people to Afghanistan…”, the Croatian President said.

“We are a country, we have our own pride and interests,” he added. “How can they fly over Croatia? Well, they can do whatever they want. And what is Croatia asking for? Nothing. We would have two men there, maybe no one. We wouldn't go there with tanks. It is a question of status, dignity. We are suspicious, and the Netherlands, which was there in Srebrenica, is fine.”

“I don't agree with what Dodik is saying, I told him to calm down. But that's what all Serbs think,” said Milanovic, talking about Dodik's threats. “What Dodik is saying should worry everyone, almost every Serb in the RS thinks so. That's the reality. They want it like the Croats wanted it in 1991. It doesn't suit us. But that's the reality. That's real life,” Milanovic concluded.
