Thousands of miners across Bosnia’s Federation (FBiH) entity took to the streets on Friday evening in their respective towns and cities following power company Elektroprivreda BiH’s rejection of their demands which they say were previously agreed on with the competent Minister.

Dissatisfied miners gather in front of coal mine directorates in Tuzla, Kakanj, Breza and Zenica. This time, their families were with them. The announced protest will last from 6 to 7 p.m.

Sinan Husic, the president of the Union of Miners, told N1 that “since this morning, we have been expecting calls and an agreement, of which there is obviously nothing. We are still in ‘workers' disobedience’."

Employees of seven mines in FBiH that operate within the Elektroprivreda BiH group, demand among other things the repeal of the disputed regulations, dismissal of the general manager of Elektroprivreda BiH and managers of coal mines within this public company, and determination of the minimum salary in mining in the amount of 1,000 Bosnian marks (some €500).

Coal excavation has been halted in all seven mines and the power company is slowly shutting down electricity production to a bare minimum, announcing imminent power cuts in some cities.
