Miners of the 'Kreka' coal mine in Tuzla north of Sarajevo, which includes the surface mines of Dubrava and Sikulja as well as the 'Mramor' mine, suspended all activities on Friday morning and went on a general strike.

About 2,200 miners and employees of this mine, which is the most important part of the concern of Bosnia's national power company ‘Elektroprivreda BiH’ are on strike.

“Kreka is the largest mine within the concern in terms of the number of workers, but also the volume of production. Over the past period, we urged, asked and begged to be provided with minimum conditions so that miners could achieve a productive result in the humane conditions, sad ‘Kreka’ trade union president Zuhdija Tokic, adding that miners never know with certainty if their salaries will be paid.

The miners will be on strike until the requests that were delivered to ‘Elektroprivreda BiH’ are met.
