Trucks carrying goods from Bosnia will be allowed to cross the Croatian border on roads where they would not be allowed to do so according to a recent decision by Croatia until the issue is completely resolved, ministers of both countries agreed on Thursday.

Croatia’s decision on the re-categorization of roads, which will take effect at the end of the month, was expected to cause immense damage to businesses in BiH.

According to the new rules, transit traffic would not be allowed for trucks exceeding 7.5 tons on some roads with border crossings between the two countries.

This means that transport companies from BiH that travel on those routes and transport goods that are exported or imported into the country would not be able to pass border crossings on roads covered by re-categorization.

The issue caused an uproar in Bosnia. BiH House of Representatives Deputy Speaker, Denis Zvizdic, said that it could be an intentional move by Croatia to create “a new kind of pressure” on Bosnia.

Croatia’s Minister of Maritime Affairs, Transport and Infrastructure, Oleg Butkovic, and Bosnia’s Minister of Communication and Traffic, Vojin Mitrovic, discussed the issue on Thursday and announced an initiative to resolve the problem of the five border crossings in question.

“It was also agreed that until the issue is officially resolved, trucks from BiH can cross the disputed border crossings without hindrance,” Minister Mitrovic confirmed for ATV.
