Croatian professional football player Luka Modric, who is the captain of the national team, on Monday attended a ceremony which included the premiere of a documentary on the Mostar-based Zrinjski on the occasion of the 120th anniversary of this football club.
Modric, who was loaned by Dinamo Zagreb in 2003 to Zrinjski Mostar in the Bosnian Premier League and who became the Bosnian Premier League Player of the Year at the age of only 18, when he was in Zrinjski, said at the ceremony that he was proud of having been part of Zrinjski.
Modric also praised the documentary as a very emotional movie.
“I am proud of having been part of Zrinjski and of the fact that my professional career started here,” said Modric, who also thanked all the fans in Mostar for their support which he could also feel today.
The initiator of the project for shooting a documentary was Neven Jurkovic, whose grandfather, Dragutin Turkalj, had been the president of the club until 1946 when he was killed by the Communist authorities.
The director of the film, Dragan Komadina, said that this was also a story about identity.
In attendance were some former football stars from this club, including Ivan Ćurkovic and Blaz Sliskovic.
