Montenegro’s Foreign Ministry said on Monday that the behavior of Serbian state officials following the adopting in parliament of the resolution on Srebrenica must not be the way that inter-state communication and overall relations are handled.

A statement said that the resolution on the genocide in Srebrenica was not directed against any nation or state, least of all the Serb people and Serbia, adding that the document clearly states that there are no genocidal nations only individuals. It said that the statements by Serbian officials and stories in “tabloid and other, more serious media” were directed against the Montenegrin government, Prime Minister and Parliament Speaker as well as most MPs.

“Those statements are hard to understand coming from leaders advocating good neighbour relations, closest cooperation in the region and its European future,” it said and expressed concern over the fact that Serbian Parliament Speaker Ivica Dacic “called a priest in Montenegro to deal with the prime minister of an independent, sovereign neighbouring country”, calling that behaviour unacceptable and incomprehensible.

The statement said that the treatment of ethnic Serb Montenegrin citizens as something that concerns Serbia is inappropriate and wrong. It said that official Podgorica is offering bridges, unlike Serbian Internal Affairs Minister Aleksandar Vulin who is threatening to ban entry for some Montenegrins.
