Montenegro’s Foreign Minister Filip Ivanovic said on Monday that his Serbian counterpart Marko Djuric should not have been quick to comment on unofficial reports of amendments to the UN Draft Resolution on Srebrenica. Pročitaj više

Djuric said that the Montenegrin government would seem to be trying to look like it was not doing anything against Serbia with the amendments. His statement was based on unsubstantiated reports that the authorities in Podgorica had drafted amendments to the resolution on Srebrenica which is due to be put up for adoption by the UN General Assembly. Serbian officials have claimed that the resolution is intended to label the entire Serbian nation as genocidal.

According to Ivanovic, Montenegro’s foreign policy is based only on its own interests. “Montenegro will behave towards other states in the same way those states behave towards Montenegro,” Ivanovic told Vijesti daily. He added that he understands that Djuric might have been hasty with his comment at the very start of his term as Foreign Minister.

The Montenegrin government hasn’t made any public statement about its possible stand on the resolution which should make July 11 International Srebrenica Remembrance Day.
