Montenegrin Prime Minister Zdravko Krivokapic never officially congratulated the unconstitutional Day of Republika Srpska entity to the President of this Bosnian entity Zeljka Cvijanovic, Krivokapic's office told the Montenegrin Information News Agency (MINA) on Monday, adding that the message was sent during a private conversation.
“There was no official congratulatory message, otherwise we would have published it on our Government portal or official Twitter account. It was a private conversation between the Prime Minister and Ms Cvijanovic,” the Montenegrin Prime Minister's office said.
Cvijanovic said earlier that she was grateful to Krivokapic who “called her and congratulated all their holidays.”
The Bosnian Serb-dominated entity marked the Day of RS on January 9, signifying the day Bosnian Serbs declared a break-away state in Bosnia called the Serb Republic of BiH in 1992, covering around half of the country's territory.
After the signing of the Dayton Peace Agreement which ended the 192-195 war in BiH, the break-away state was integrated into the country as an entity under the name of or Republika Srpska.
The holiday was declared unconstitutional by the State Constitutional Court in March 2019 but the entity continues to celebrate it regardless of the decision.
Krivokapic's message to Cvijanovic sparked condemnation from Bosnian officials, saying it deeply disrespects the country and its sovereignty.
