Montenegro's authorities called for tighter restrictions after that country logged 65 new Covid-19 cases on Tuesday, a record daily high in two months, Croatian state agency Hina reported.
Initially hard-hit by the coronavirus pandemic, the tiny Adriatic nation of 620,000 people had lifted almost all restrictions in April, following a decline in the number of cases.
Since the majority of recent cases have been registered in popular tourist towns along the coast, the authorities are threatening with introducing 15-30 day closures for restaurants and bars that had been found violating restrictions “multiple times,” Hina said.
Currently, there are more than 100,000 holidaymakers staying in Montenegro. To date, 35 percent of the adult population has been fully vaccinated, and about 15 percent of the entire population has recovered from Covid-19. There were also 1,623 Covid-related deaths to date.
