More than 200,000 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 will go to waste in Bosnia’s Federation (FBiH) entity although only about 22 percent of its population is fully vaccinated, the director of the FBiH Public Health Institute said on Thursday.

Sinisa Skocibusic told reporters that the expiration date for 200,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine and 1,300 doses of the Sinovac vaccine is the end of October.

Meanwhile, only 22 percent of the FBiH population received the second dose, while only 25 percent received the first shot.

“We strive for the Western European way of vaccination, which means 80 percent. We have a big job ahead of us, but there is also a big responsibility on each of us,” said Skocibusic.

He announced that 60,000 doses of the Moderna vaccine, donated by Croatia, will arrive in BiH tomorrow.
