The Association of Anti-Fascists and Fighters of the National Liberation War (UABNOR) Mostar visited the Partisan memorial cemetery on Thursday morning where they laid flowers and wreaths and paid tribute to fallen anti-fascists on Victory over Fascism Day.
Semir Drljevic Lovac, wartime commander, said that today exist both Eastern Moscovite and Western anti-fascism.
“Once it was all one thing and they had one goal. Unfortunately, the constant is the fight for anti-fascism, for the rule of law where we should all be the same before the law, with human rights and democracy – to have the right to a different opinion. It is precisely fascism that denies this. The most disastrous thing is that anti-fascism is tied to certain political parties and ideas. In my opinion, anti-fascism has its roots in the holy books because they say that people are brothers and born equal. It is a constant struggle to be good people, to give rights to the other and different and to fight for our right to be ourselves,” said Drljevic Lovac.
Zeljko Laketic, president of the Association of Anti-Fascists and Fighters of the National Liberation War (UBNOR) Mostar, said that this date has always been extremely important for Mostar because the fallen National Liberation War (NOR) fighters who made an immeasurable contribution to the creation of the former Yugoslavia and Bosnia and Herzegovina are buried here.
“We should come here, mark this date, thank them and pay our respect regardless of the current political orientation and ideology. Those people created the preconditions for us to be able to function as a state and to create better conditions for future generations. This is the only country we have,” said Laketic.
