The President of BiH's Republika Srpska (RS) entity Milorad Dodik has announced on social media that the entity intends to establish its own border police. This move represents yet another attack on the constitutional order of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“Today, a meeting of the highest leadership of Republika Srpska was held at the RS Palace in Banja Luka, where a decision was made to establish a border police force for Republika Srpska in accordance with the Dayton Agreement and its Annex 2. A Working Group has also been formed, which held its first meeting today to draft a law regulating the operation of the border police on the territory of Republika Srpska. The legal framework on which the Working Group is working will be strictly in line with the Dayton Agreement and its Annex 2”, Dodik wrote on docial media.
He noted that, between 1996 and 2000, the border of Republika Srpska was controlled by the RS Police, and that the High Representative Wolfgang Petritsch imposed the State Border Service of BiH on January 13, 2000, which Dodik claims was not in line with the Dayton Peace Agreement.
He also announced that a meeting on the security situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina would be held in RS later in the day.
“In the afternoon, a closed session of the Government of Republika Srpska will be held to discuss broader political and security issues in Republika Srpska and Bosnia and Herzegovina”.
