Several hundred families crossed the Medyka border crossing on Wednesday morning which means the humanitarian corridors are likely opened at this point, N1’s Ika Ferrer Gotic reports from the Poland-Ukraine border crossing.
According to Ukraine’s deputy prime minister, nine humanitarian corridors have been agreed for Wednesday.
N1 spoke to a Ukrainian mother and her two children who finally made it from their devastated Mariupol to Poland after trying to flee the city for five days.
“When we tried to escape, they started bombing the place where we are. We hid in the basement. I ran away to the neighbour's house with my children, my husband and mother stayed in the house. We have been trying to escape from Mariupol for five days, and now we do not know where our family is,” the Ukrainian mother told N1.
“They razed everything to the ground and the shelling never stops,” she added, explaining that people are now starving in the city because the humanitarian corridors were closed.
Her nine-year-old daughter told N1 she was very scared.
