Although the Bosnian war drama ‘Quo Vadis, Aida?’ did not win the Academy Award, the Mothers of Srebrenica association thanked film director Jasmila Zbanic for making the movie.

The association, officially named ‘Movement of Mothers of Srebrenica and Zepa Enclaves’, consists of women who have lost their closest family members in the 1995 Srebrenica Genocide.
The plot of Zbanic’s ‘Quo Vadis, Aida?’, which won numerous awards, revolves around a female U.N. interpreter’s desperate efforts to save her family during the genocide.

Za nas si osvojila i više od Oskara, veliko hvala! ❤️ @QuoVadisAidapic.twitter.com/09MS8yudcw

Although it was considered one of the favourites for the Oscar this year, the award went to the film ‘Another Round’, by Danish filmmaker Thomas Vinterberg.

“For us, the work of Jasmila Zbanic is much bigger than the toy she would have brought us!,” the Mothers of Srebrenica association said, referring to the award.

“For us, you have won more than an Oscar, thank you very much!” the association said.
