Mural celebrating convicted war criminal Ratko Mladic drawn in Bijeljina

A new mural depicting Ratko Mladic, the former commander of the Army of Republika Srpska convicted of genocide and war crimes, has appeared on a building near the City Park in Bijeljina. Beneath the image, a message reads: "Heroj, tvoji mladići" ("Hero, your young men" - derived from his surname, Mladic, a word meaning 'young man'.)

A large group of young people gathered at the location on Sunday evening to express support for Mladic, referring to him as a Serbian hero. According to those present, Partizan football supporters from Republika Srpska were responsible for painting the mural.
The incident in Bijeljina is not an isolated occurrence. Similar murals and graffiti honoring Mladic have previously been documented across several towns in Republika Srpska, including Foca, Banja Luka, Kalinovik, and Rogatica. Glorification of Mladic through street art remains prevalent in Serbia as well, particularly in the capital, Belgrade, where numerous public displays dedicated to him have been recorded.
Mladic was sentenced to life imprisonment by an international tribunal following his conviction for genocide, crimes against humanity, and violations of the laws and customs of war committed during the conflict in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
