Muslims in Bosnia and Herzegovina celebrate on Sunday one of the most important holidays in year – Eid al-Fitr, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
The central prayer and sermon were held at the Sarajevo's Gazi Husrev bey's mosque, led by Grand Mufti Husein Kavazovic.
Speaking to the faithful, Kavazovic said that the starting point for everything we do and we believe in should be the word of God, citing a part of Qur'an that says: “And the agreement is the best.”
“It is not our duty to wait for the things to settle down by themselves. It is our duty to work on making that opportunity happen. Nothing will come alone. I am glad to see that our ordinary people think with their own head and seek their interest. And their interest is peace and order,” he sad.
He also said that Bosnia and Herzegovina is a home to all, big enough for all their sons and daughters.
“Let's not allow those igniting fire these days to make them burn and turn into the fire of hatred, which would hurt all of us. Peace, justice and stability must be essential values where we all would stand as one. Everything else matters less if we wast these foundations. The state must not be passive in relation to those calling for anarchy, those who threaten and spread terror. For such people there is the state and apparatus that must work,” he said.
Later during the day, Kavazovic will hold a reception at the seat of the Islamic Community in Sarajevo.
The three-day Eid is marked with prayers and festivities, family gatherings and outings. On the second day, people in Bosnia visit the graves of their loved ones.
