The Perseverance rover just became NASA's fifth rover to safely land on the surface of Mars after surviving the "seven minutes of terror."
The rover landed in the crater called Jezero (Lake), after a municipality in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2007.
The crater Jezero is a 45-kilometre-wide basin located in Mars’ northern hemisphere. It was considered a landing place for earlier missions, but so far it was considered that it would be too difficult to land on it.
The Municipality of Jezero organized a live video broadcast of the Mars rover landing via an outdoor stream. The Mayor of Jezero, Snezana Ruzicic, said that they were happy the crater on Mars was called after their municipality.
After landing, the rover sent out first photos from the surface of the planet and the NASA Perseverance Twitter account tweeted that the vehicle has safely landed.
I’m safe on Mars. Perseverance will get you anywhere.

This is the most sophisticated rover the agency has ever sent to the Red Planet. It will gather data and look for signs of ancient life in a crater that once contained a lake about 3.9 billion years ago.
