Neum, the most popular summer resort in Bosnia and the place where a large number of seminars and symposia of companies from all over the country are held in the winter months, is covered with hateful messages, as well as those in which the Ustashas are celebrated. This time the target of fascist and nationalist insults was a restaurant owned by Jasmin Osmanović.
The restaurant owner told N1 that this is not the first time such incidents have happened and that he has reported them to the police before, which so far has not brought the suspects into custody.
“Neum is a small place where everything is known but nothing is done, people who are on the sidelines have a lot of problems from the same group of people,” the owner told N1.
On the window of his restaurant, “Gazi balije” (“trample the balija” – a pejorative term used to describe Bosniak Muslims) is written with spray paint, and next to it is an inscription which reads “F*** Sarajevo”.#related-news_0
Also, in the restaurant parking lot, the walls are written with Ustasha greetings and Ustasha symbols.
It's not the first time that things like this have happened in Neum, hateful messages, fights, window smashing, all these things are damaging the tourist image of the city, which is visited by an increasing number of tourists who come predominantly from Bosnia and Herzegovina, every year.
The competent police authorities have not taken any serious measures so far. It is high time that the procedures for identifying and apprehending these vandals are done.
According to N1’s interlocutor, the same group of people has been committing such incidents for years.
The tourist board of the town of Neum should insist on preventing and punishing such mishaps, which cause enormous damage to the Bosnian city on the Adriatic.
