The Sarajevo Canton Assembly was formed on Friday, with 31 representatives from seven parties.

The President of Bosnia’s Central Election Commission (CEC), Suad Arnautovic, congratulated the newly elected representatives and expressed the hope that they will justify the trust of the citizens who elected them in the coming period.

He also called on the representatives to resolve the issue of appointing officials to represent national minorities, which is their guaranteed right according to the BiH Constitution.

The Sarajevo Canton Assembly now consists of seven parties – the Party of Democratic Action (SDA), People and Justice (NiP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), Party for BiH (SBiH), Our Party (NS), Democratic Front/Civil Council (DF/GS ), and For new generations.

The SDA and NiP received the largest number of mandates, seven each.

Thus, from the SDA, Sebija Izetbegovic, Adi Kalem, Faruk Kapidzic, Mahir Devic, Faruk Selmanovic, Smiljana Viteskic and Haris Zahiragic received mandates.
NiP will be represented by Kemal Ademovic, Aljosa Campara, Danijela Kristic, Arijana Memic, Elvedin Okeric, Rusmir Pobric and Elvis Vreto.

Four representatives will come from the SBiH – Muamer Bandic, Admela Hodzic, Jasmin Saljic, Fatima Smailbegovic-Gavrankapetanovic, while the SDP will have Irfan Cengic, Davor Cicic, Igor Stojanovic and Jelena Pekic in the Assembly.

Our Party will be represented by Vildana Beslija, Vibor Handzic, Miomirka Melank i Nihad Uk and DF/GS will also have four representatives, Marijela Hasimbegovic, Ilijaz Pilav, Vedrana Vujovic and Albin Zuhric.

Damir Marjanovic will represent For new Generations.

The head of the SDA Club in the KS, Mahir Devic, argued that his party is the true winner of the elections in the KS and that the Canton, as well as Bosnia’s Federation (FBiH) entity, face an “unstable period”.

“As things stand, a stable government will not be formed here. SDA is the first in the KS for the KS Assembly and received the most votes. As the head of the Club, I did not discuss possible coalitions with some parties, the party headquarters is conducting negotiations and I cannot give you more information on that topic. We cannot block the work of the Assembly,” he said, arguing that “a government with eight or nine parties in the coalition will be unstable”.

Elvedin Okeric, who was the chairman of the KS Assembly in the previous term, said this is not true and that the party he comes from, NiP, won the most votes.

He said that the coalition between his party, NS and SDP more than 50 percent of the vote.

“KS citizens living here cast 700,000 more votes for them than for the SDA. NiP received the largest number of votes from voters in KS. Today we held the constituent session of the KS Assembly and the commission will carry out the further procedure for the appointment. NiP, SDP, NS and Marjanovic with the party For new generations have the majority and we will continue to work until the government is formed at a higher level and then maybe there will be an even stronger coalition”, he said.
