Edin Forto, the new Prime Minister of the Sarajevo Canton told N1's Amir Zukic Wednesday that the Cantonal budget is in rough shape and that the new government will likely reach for a loan to cover the missing funds.
“You know how the budget is filled. When you freeze all economic activity, when you stop people from going to work, making them stay at home, nobody spends any money. The budget is currently being filled at a slower pace. We'll know how much money we're missing in the coming days,” Forto said.
Speaking about the long-standing issue in Sarajevo which is air pollution, Forto said he had a meeting with international community representatives on this topic where he outlined the steps he plans to take.
“Slovenian Ambassador also spoke to me and said Ljubljana had the same problem, but that they solved it after 30 years. We won't take 30 years,” he said.
When asked whether he will ban coal from use in Sarajevo Canton, he said no.
“We won't ban the use of coal completely because that is not just. You can't prohibit people from heating,” the new Sarajevo PM noted.
When it comes to the projects his government will implement in the coming period, he said he would support all good projects from the field of sports and culture.
“If you invest in culture, half of the funds return to you, the culture industry has the biggest return on investment, it's the engine of development and we have recognized that. I was always for mass sports. Our children don't swim enough, they don’t ski. This must be made available to our children so that they feel they have quality,” Forto said for N1.
