Data from the Coordination Committee for Small Arms and Light Weapons Control show that in 2025 over 370,000 people legally possessed firearms, the Banja Luka-based Nezavisne Novine daily said on Monday.
Registered weapons numbered around 286,000 in the Bosniak-Croat shared Federation entity, over 130,000 in the Serb-domianted entity of Republika Srpska, and just under 5,000 in Brcko District. Men held 365,679 firearms, women 6,464.
Comparisons with previous years indicate an increase in legal ownership of more than 50,000 weapons since 2020. A 2018 report by the Swiss research centre Small Arms Survey estimated that BiH citizens also held over 800,000 unregistered firearms.
